Puffin spotting adventures from Thorntonloch Caravan Park
Thorntonloch Caravan Park is perfectly placed on Scotland’s east coast for guests keen to explore some of the region’s most enchanting wildlife – and topping the list for many is the unmistakable puffin. With their colourful beaks, waddling walk, and clumsy charm, puffins are a joy to see in the wild, and our corner of East Lothian is a fantastic base for doing just that.

Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply curious about these charismatic seabirds, here’s our guide to the best places to see puffins nearby – all easily accessible as a day trip from the park.
1. Isle of May – Fife’s Puffin Paradise
Best time to visit: Late April to early August
How to get there: Drive 40 minutes to North Berwick, then take a boat trip from North Berwick via the Scottish Seabird Centre
